Welcome Back! We (Mrs. Fuzak, Mrs. Malloch, and Ms. Naber) are excited for the new school year and to have you in our classes! Here's the place to find the weekly agenda and homework for seventh grade English.

Monday- Labor DayTuesday- Seating Charts, Expectations, Syllabus, Autograph Party, explain “I” poster (fill up the poster with a minimum of 25 words- nouns, verbs, etc.) **Bring a spiral bound notebook for English!!Wednesday- Read out loud (Crash), Library (get a 200-page book you have never read before), explain 40 book challenge, and work on “I” poster, student reading recordThursday- Share good things, silent reading, write six-word memoir and tweet (140 characters or less)Friday- Read out loud, start Word Nerd (Word Wall), Caught ‘Ya, intro. to Greek and Latin root words and make notecards

Monday-  ROL, Caught ‘Ya, who or what is the breadwinner?, chapter 1-3 Powerpoint pictures, vocabulary, hand out The Breadwinner and read chapters 1-3  with discussion questions
Tuesday- Good News, review vocab., explain the end project--poster, art, presentation--and silent read and work on questions
Wednesday- ROL, Caught ‘Ya, review vocab., go over discussion questions in groups, any questions??- in group write down any questions you have with 1-3, assign 4-6- one pager for chapters 4-6 (1 for the 3 chapters) . Hand in on Friday for feedback.
Thursday- Good News, SSR,  vocab quiz #1, Afghanistan PPT- direct and indirect evidence, and work time
Friday- ROL, Caught ‘Ya, hand out vocab list #2, What is the Author’s Purpose (RL.7.6), assign chapters 7-9 with summary boxes- one sentence summary with picture or 5 facts- use computer paper and divide into 4 boxes.

HOMEWORK:

The week of May 21

Monday-  Read out loud, Caught Ya, quiz over chapters 4-6, preposition practice, and work time on their letters.  The rough draft of their thank you letter is due Tuesday.

Tuesday- Share good news, silent reading (chapter 7 due Wednesday), go over inferences, and peer edit the rough draft of their letters.  The final draft, along with an envelope and stamp, will be due on Friday.

Wednesday- Library (check accounts- all materials are due Friday), read chapter 8 reader's theatre style as a class, fill in inferences from the chapter as a group

Thursday- Silent reading (chapter 9 due Monday), practice prepositions, and look at different tabloid articles.  As a group they'll write an article from either a Greaser or a Soc point of view.

Friday-  Take the SRI test on the computers (reading test), read chapter 9 when finished, and hand in letter with envelope and stamp.

Homework-

Tuesday- read chapter 7
Wednesday and Thursday-work on final draft of letter or read chapter 9
Friday- Chapter 9 (quiz over 7-9 on Monday)

Monday- Caught Ya, Silent reading from The Outsiders and journal on living in the 1960s vs. today

Tuesday-Read out loud, Caught Ya, quiz over chapters 1-3 in The Outsiders, Journal #3- choose one of two quotes from the book to respond to

Wednesday-Read out loud, Caught Ya, poster activity involving the main characters- present with group

Thursday-Silent reading, Prepositions PowerPoint, journal #4- what event has changed your life?, and personal letter (like Soda's in The Outsiders).  Write a letter to someone you'd like to thank.  You will need an envelope and a stamp to mail the final draft.  The rough draft will be due Tuesday.

Friday-Read out loud, Caught Ya, Roleplay with The Outsiders

Homework- Chapters 4-6, pages 53-100 will be due next Monday, and the rough draft of their thank you letter due next Tuesday.

Tuesday- Good things, review short story/play vocab., finish the play and analyze characters and identify short story elements from the play.

Wednesday- Read out loud, Caught Ya, watch the TV version of "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street" and compare and contrast mental images they had while reading the play to the staged version.

Thursday- Good things, silent reading, review vocab., read the short story "All Summer in a Day"

Friday- Read out loud, Caught Ya, review vocab., adverb practice, and compare/contrast the two science fiction stories from this week.

Wednesday- Library visit, read out loud, caught ya, adjective quiz, and study vocabulary and silent read when done

Thursday- good news, Crispin quiz #6 and assign 249-297 (the end of the book), study vocabulary, and explain "Live from the Middle Ages" news broadcast and get into groups for work time

Friday- Read out loud, Caught Ya, vocabulary quiz, and work/rehearse broadcast (broadcast will be presented on Monday)

Week of March 5-9

Monday: We had ROL and Caught 'Ya. Then we discussed coordinate and cumulative adjectives and when to use commas. Next we took a comprehension quiz on pages 23-69 (Chapters 5-15) of Crispin. After that we took the first vocabulary quiz on 10 words from the novel, Crispin. New pages to read are 69-100 (Chapters 16-21).

Tuesday: In class we had 15 minutes of SSR where you could either read Crispin or your own SSR book. After that we corrected the adjective worksheet on coordinate adjectives. Then we started filling in a chart on comparative and superlative adjectives. Next discussion questions were handed out, to be completed by next Thursday. They are over pages 69-100 (Chapters. 16-21) Finally, you had work time to complete some of these assignments.

Wednesday: We had ROL and Caught 'Ya. Then we took a trip to the library. After that we were able to review vocabulary words. Then there was work time to prepare for the quiz tomorrow over Crispin, Chapters 16-21.

Thursday: First, we took Crispin Quiz #3 over Chapters 16-21. The next assignment for reading is Chapters 22-31 and the quiz will be next Tuesday. Then we reviewed vocabulary. (This class was shorter because we also took the ACT Explore that day.)

Wednesday- Caught Ya, review complete sentences, and start presenting Christmas projects.

Thursday- Complete Sentence Assessment and present Christmas projects.

Friday- Read Out Loud, Caught Ya, and finish up any presentations

Week of December 5

Monday- We will do Read Out Loud, Caught Ya, go over chapters 13-15 in the book, The Breadwinner, do some exercises on verbs and complete sentences, and discuss the Common Assessment over The Breadwinner which will be taken on Wednesday.
Tuesday-We will discuss good things, continue to work on complete sentences and verbs, and go over the Christmas project. The project will be a slideshow on Google Docs over different festivals and holidays celebrated around the world.
Wednesday- We will do Read Out Loud, Caught Ya, and the common assessment over The Breadwinner.
Thursday- We will discuss good things and allow the students to begin working on the Christmas project.
Friday- We will Read Out Loud, Caught Ya, and allow the students to continue working on their project. Students will present the project to the class next week.

Homework:
Monday- Avoiding Run-on sentences sheet
Tuesday- Any late work dealing with The Breadwinner
Wednesday-Friday- None :)

The week of Nov. 21

Monday- We will do Read Out Loud, Caught ya, study our vocabulary words from The Breadwinner, write a letter to Parvana in The Breadwinner, and silent read chapters 7-9 (due tomorrow).

Tuesday- We will go over chapters 7-9 in The Breadwinner, study vocabulary, go over a complete sentences PowerPoint and do a worksheet on sentence fragments. If there's extra time they can start reading chapters 10-12.

Wednesday- We will do Read Out Loud, Caught Ya, we'll take our second vocabulary quiz, hand out new vocabulary and silent read if there's extra time.

Homework-
Monday- chapters 7-9 and questions, study vocab.
Tuesday- study vocab.
Wednesday- read chapters 10-12 due next Wednesday

No school Thursday, Friday, and Monday. Happy Thanksgiving!

Week of November 14

Monday- We will do Read out Loud, Caught Ya, study vocabulary, discuss chapters 1-3 in The Breadwinner, and we'll do an exercise with sentence fragments and run on sentences. They will also get their next reading assignment (chapters 4-6) for The Breadwinner and questions (blue sheet). This is due on Friday.

Tuesday- We will start with silent reading, we'll study our vocabulary (quiz Thursday), and we'll go over a PowerPoint on run on sentences. Students will also get a worksheet on run on sentences.

Wednesday- We will be taking the SRI test (Scholastic Reading Inventory). This test gauges where there reading level is and gives them a lexile score for their result. We determine reading interventions based on the SRI scores. Students will have work time after they finish the test.

Thursday- We will take our vocabulary test, go over pronouns, and read from The Breadwinner. Students will also get new vocabulary words.

Friday- We will do Read Out Loud, Caught Ya Quiz #2- it will cover run on sentences and using commas and conjunctions, we'll discuss chapters 4-6 and will study our new vocab. words. Chapters 7-9 and questions will be due on Tuesday.

Homework-
Monday- study vocab., begin reading 4-6 and do the questions
Tuesday- study vocab., read and questions
Wednesday- study vocab., read and questions
Thursday- make sure 4-6 is read and the questions are done
Friday- Begin reading 7-9 (due Friday), and study new vocab.
